Freshmen Orientation Day 2; Tips On How To Navigate Your First Year On Campus.

Dear Freshmen, I welcome and also congratulate you on your successful admission into this great citadel of learning, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife.
Just as you've experienced that being admitted into OAU isn't an easy task, you must have sacrificed your time for reading both day days at night, when it's convenient and when it's not, I'd nudge you to keep folds that energy on now that you're here.
Yes, now that you're here, the struggle continues. The struggles you faced as an aspirant can no way be compared with that of being an OAU student.

Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife is inherently for learning and struggles, especially for freshmen. That's why her students otherwise call her "School of Shege". You struggle with almost everything, arising from registration at your various Faculty and Departments, infant library, and Health Center registration is given priority in OAU, if you don't do them, you won't be able to graduate.
Attending lectures, writing CA and examinations also come with their struggles. But trust me, you can't do without those struggles.

Now that you're here, below are some basic tips on how to navigate your first year on the OAU campus.

1. NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, TRY TO LIVE ON CAMPUS: Yes, securing accommodation on campus would surely ease your stress and struggles especially when registrations and classes matter.
Even if you weren't given accommodation on your portal, it's still possible to get one if you visit the Division Of Student Affairs with your Clearance Certificate.  It might also be accompanied by a lot of stress but endure and try to live on campus.

2. DEAR FRESHMEN, TAKE YOUR FIRST YEAR SERIOUSLY: You don't need to wake up by 4:00 a.m. to go grab a front seat at your lecture venues before they know you're a serious student. Nevertheless, read while you read, play while you play, know the kind of company you keep, joke not with lectures, especially attendance, and lastly don't procrastinate.

3. NOW THAT YOU'RE ON CAMPUS, BE YOURSELF: By this, I mean know what works most for you. That your coursemate reads all night and you don't doesn't make you a lazy student, don't imitate them if you're not a night reader just be yourself!
That your friends are industrious and they're doing great in those businesses doesn't make the business a must for you, pls be yourself.

4. Now that you're here, don't be frightened too much by the stories you heard from your seniors about a course or a lecturer. Don't be carried away by those reports as most stale students would exaggerate while others might be true.
Nonetheless, stay focused, don't panic, and don't get frightened by whatever they say.

5. NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, JOIN A REASONABLE ASSOCIATION: As an OAU fresher, you don't necessarily need those associations because you might not have time for them. However, you may focus more on this when you settle well into the system. Even at that, don't just join any association you were introduced to, join those that you add value to your academics and or discipline

6. NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, NETWORK WITH OTHERS: Never work alone, partner with other smart colleagues in your department or another. This would help you a lot when you run into concepts you couldn't grasp in class.

7. NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE, ENJOY YOUR STAY: Yes, enjoy your studentship, and don't be carried away by academic rigor to the extent that you don't explore the campus. OAU campus is beautiful beyond what you don't want to tour, create time to explore the campus maybe after your exams and take pictures if possible. Visit the University's biological garden and museum, go mountaineering, go when an artist visits the campus, attend seminars too, and also take your spiritual life seriously.

Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife is a massive and beautiful campus filled with various activities, enjoy your stay!

Thanks for reading!
