ACJOAU Welcomes New Members, Focuses on Navigating Challenges in Campus Journalism

The Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University, ACJOAU held its 2024 induction ceremony for new members on December 7, 2024. The event, themed "Campus Journalism: Navigating Challenges, Embracing Growth, and Shaping Stories," welcomed fresh faces into the community, marking the start of their journey as campus journalists.
The program commenced at 9:50 am with opening prayers, followed by the OAU school anthem and introduction of the inductees. Olabode Oluwafemi, the president of ACJOAU, welcomed the new intakes, reminding them that journalism plays a vital role in serving the public. He urged the inductees to embrace the challenges of campus journalism, noting that "it would not be a smooth ride all through".
Two respected guest speakers, Mr. Damilola Olufemi and Miss Peace Oladipo shared their knowledge and experiences. Damilola, a development journalist, spoke about the struggles campus journalists face, such as managing their time and balancing academics with journalism. He shared his story from his days as a campus journalist, emphasizing the importance of strong writing skills, building networks, and staying committed.
Peace Oladipo, an investigative journalist, talked about the key skills needed to excel in campus journalism. She stressed the importance of writing well, gaining knowledge, and being committed to the work. Her advice inspired the inductees and prepared them for the task ahead.
The ceremony also included the presentation of prizes, a spoken word presentation, and the taking of oaths. The president gave his closing remarks, bringing the program to an end.
The induction ceremony marked the beginning of a fulfilling journey for the new members. It is a reminder of the value of journalism and growth. As Olabode Oluwafemi said, "The future of journalism depends on your voice."
